The Untamed Green-eyed Monster

This post comes to you courtesy of my Twitter and Facebook timelines. I understand that social media is a means to communicate and express oneself but lately the jealousy, bitterness and envy has become untamed.  It is a natural human reaction to dislike what we are ignorant about, or what is different from us. I strongly believe that all the energy we spend hating people could end world famine and poverty.

I know what you’re thinking, that I’ve’ve written less than friendly posts about
Tina Banda and Smooth IK.  I hold no grudges and don’t know them personally. I just expect them to hold events of a higher standard. (There’s a reason blog is called Misadventures of Afro Ginger)

The urban dictionary defines hating as when one puts down the success or fortune of others due to jealousy.  I’ve come up with the most common types of people who are on the receiving end of hatred/hateration(according to the urban dictionary that’s a real word)

People that have more money than you:

Not everyone sells their “soul” or has their family members killed so they can get ahead.  The struggle is real all that time you’re accusing a hard-working person of selling drugs or stealing. You could be thinking of creative ways to improve yourself stop worrying about the next person and do you.

People that (in your opinion) look different:

“He’s/she’s too fat/too skinny.”  How boring would life be if we all looked the same? That scale of beauty only exists in your head and is highly influenced by the media. Stop it, giving someone a compliment won’t kill you, we were all created beautiful. Letting your insecurities get the better of you gets you absolutely nowhere.  Individuality makes life better!!

People that refused to date or have intimate relations with you:

That’s right I said it. They’ve turned you down and now you’re throwing a pity party on social media. Would you really want to be with someone who doesn’t want you back?  Retreat, regroup, return, revenge, reflect. Let it go it’s their loss telling them there heartless on twitter wont magically get them to have affection for you.  It will only make them big-headed.

Single People:

As I’ve grown older, more of my friends have “settled down” and gotten married. I’m genuinely happy for them.  There seems to be some sort of marriage recruitment. As if we should all have that in common. The whole “you’re next” concept isn’t a good marketing strategy. It’s a bit like telling someone their next in a line of people to be executed. You don’t have to have a life partner to settle down.  Some of us are settled down, regardless of whether or we have a lifetime partner or not. It may or may not happen and a lot of us are okay with that.

The internet is more that just Facebook and twitter so next time you feel like showing the world your envy and insecurity. Keep an open mind, do something else, sign a petition, watch some YouTube videos and most of all…
